No-exam life insurance

Accelerated underwriting: who qualifies, how it works, and what happens if you don't.

Most carriers today offer accelerated underwriting for applicants in certain age brackets and below certain coverage amounts. They make a decision based on your application, medication records, driving history, and similar data—no exam needed. Decisions can come within hours. Every quote on this site tells you if an exam is required, may be needed, or isn't required.

What it changes

No exam doesn't mean no underwriting check. The carrier verifies your answers, and a policy based on wrong information can be challenged within two years of issue. If the carrier's own records suggest questions, it can still request an exam or lab results; you'll have the chance to say yes or stop.

Who tends to qualify

Usually applicants under 60, applying for coverage under the carrier's accelerated threshold, with no serious health conditions and no tobacco use for a year or longer. Some carriers will skip the exam if you've had a recent doctor visit that included blood work.

If the carrier asks for an exam, it's normally a 20 to 30 minute appointment at your La Puente home or office with a paramedical professional—free of charge to you. For applicants in good health, strong exam results can actually improve your rate class, so the exam isn't necessarily a drawback.
